Obituary

Russell F. Godin, 84, of Smithfield, Rhode Island, died Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Kent County Hospital after a brave and courageous battle with Dementia. Born in Central Falls, he was a loving and devoted son of the late Henry and Andrea (Lepine) Godin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Annette F. (Frattarelli). Russ was a resident of Cranston for over 50 years before moving to Smithfield.

Russ was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Michele A. (David) Marsella of Smithfield, and loving and devoted son, Russell F. (Rhonda) Godin II of South Kingstown; his cherished grandchildren, Rachel and Marc Godin, and Molly Marsella; his dear brother, Henry (Constance) Godin of Cranston; his loving nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.

Russ graduated Cranston High School in 1957. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Providence College in 1961. While enrolled at Providence College he was an active member in their ROTC program, helping establish the Pershing Rifles group on campus.

After graduation, Russ proudly served three (3) years in the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge he was a banker by profession, holding numerous positions at Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank, People’s Bank, Eastland Bank, Woonsocket Savings and Trust, FDIC, Slade’s Ferry Bank, and Freedom Bank, until his retirement. Along with banking, he also loved helping people start up their own business by being a mentor in the Small Business Development Center when it was at Johnson & Wales.

Russ loved traveling, reading, coin collecting, target shooting, and was very proud of his gardens. He was a proud member of the Chapter of the Korean War Veterans of Chepachet and of the Providence Revolver Club. He was also a devout parishioner at St. Michael’s Church.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Cedar Crest in Cranston and Kent Hospital, especially Dr. Steven Ferro for your very compassionate bedside manner.
