Russell F. Godin, 84, of Smithfield, Rhode Island, died Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Kent County Hospital after a brave and courageous battle with Dementia. Born in Central Falls, he was a loving and devoted son of the late Henry and Andrea (Lepine) Godin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Annette F. (Frattarelli). Russ was a resident of Cranston for over 50 years before moving to Smithfield.
Russ was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Michele A. (David) Marsella of Smithfield, and loving and devoted son, Russell F. (Rhonda) Godin II of South Kingstown; his cherished grandchildren, Rachel and Marc Godin, and Molly Marsella; his dear brother, Henry (Constance) Godin of Cranston; his loving nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.
Russ graduated Cranston High School in 1957. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Providence College in 1961. While enrolled at Providence College he was an active member in their ROTC program, helping establish the Pershing Rifles group on campus.
After graduation, Russ proudly served three (3) years in the US Army. Upon his honorable discharge he was a banker by profession, holding numerous positions at Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank, People’s Bank, Eastland Bank, Woonsocket Savings and Trust, FDIC, Slade’s Ferry Bank, and Freedom Bank, until his retirement. Along with banking, he also loved helping people start up their own business by being a mentor in the Small Business Development Center when it was at Johnson & Wales.
Russ loved traveling, reading, coin collecting, target shooting, and was very proud of his gardens. He was a proud member of the Chapter of the Korean War Veterans of Chepachet and of the Providence Revolver Club. He was also a devout parishioner at St. Michael’s Church.

Funeral will be on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 9:30am, from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am at St. Michael’s Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville, Rhode Island, 02917. Burial with military honors will be held at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation will be from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations in Russell’s memory may be made to the Rhode Island Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association [act.alz.org/site/donation2].
