It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of lifelong Ventura native, James Royden Capito. At 87 years young he succumbed to a head injury on Sunday, Oct. 23rd, 2022 that he sustained in his home.
James led an extraordinary life and was loved by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. James was devoted to his career with the Ventura County Flood Control Dept. A job he proudly held for 54 years. He was passionate about preserving Ventura’s history and played an active role as Chairman (1994-2004) for the Tortilla Flats Mural project, a neighborhood he grew up in, in the 1930’s and 40’s.
A man of immense character, James enjoyed entertaining with tales of his world travels, serenading you with a song on his guitar, fishing, dining out, and finding a great deal at a swap meet. But his proudest achievement was his family and his greatest joy in life was spending time with those he loved. The sum of all his unique qualities made him so special to all that knew and loved him. He will be surely missed, but never forgotten.
James is survived by his son Frank, daughter-in-law Carol, grandchildren Kaili Capito, Kendall Capito and wife Dominique Chen, Kierstan Burritt and husband Kyle Burritt, great granddaughter Fletcher Chen Capito, and longtime love and life partner Terri Davis.
