Bernice R. (Dupree) Dorgan 103, of Hanover, MA died Thursday October 27 at the All-American Assisted Living in Hanson. She was the beloved wife of forty years to the late Lawrence “Larry” F. Dorgan, Sr.
Born in Nova Scotia to Annie (MacPherson) and Martin Dupree on July 22, 1919. Her family later relocated to Maine and Massachusetts, and as a young adult Bernice moved to New Jersey for several years before returning to Massachusetts.
Bernice had lived through the Depression of the 1920’s as well as World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
For several years she had worked at the Shank Shop in Whitman, followed by fifteen years for Walmart of Abington as their outstanding “Greeter” for which she was acknowledged several times. She was also an active volunteer at the Cardinal Cushing Center in Hanover.
Bernice and her husband Larry were avid ballroom dancers, competing in Boston and New York. After the death of her husband, she continued with line dancing, where her team actively entertained in several social presentations. Her other interests include, musical theater, opera, and the arts.
She is survived by her children Sylvia Dorgan of Plymouth, Larry Dorgan and his wife Diane of Hanson and Brian Dorgan of his wife Diane of Bourne, as well as five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Dennis Dorgan.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Wednesday November 9 from 4:00-6:00 PM with a service to follow at 6:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be private.
