Ruth V. "Ruthie" (Sullivan) Gorman, Matriarch of the compound, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Friday, October 28, 2022 at her home on the compound in Charlestown. She was 88 years of age.
Ruthie was born in Boston on February 27, 1934, a daughter of the late Andrew Sullivan and Nora (Murphy) Sullivan. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School. Ruthie married the love of her life Joseph Mark Gorman, and at the early age of 35, her husband died suddenly in October of 1970 while working at the Charlestown Naval Shipyard leaving Ruthie as a widower with 6 young children at home. For the next 52 years of Ruthie's life, she dedicated herself tirelessly and with all the love and affection while nurturing her children to the people they have become today. She never looked back with any sign of pity and as time went by, she saw her family grow when she became Nana Ruthie to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoying all the family gatherings at the compound and Hampton Beach. She enjoyed cooking for all her family and it was very important to Ruthie that family always came first.
Ruthie was a member of The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and Daughters of Isabella # 1. In her spare time during earlier years, Ruthie enjoyed her special core of friends who were known to enjoy themselves with a few libations.
Ruthie is the beloved wife of the late Joseph M. Gorman. She is the devoted mother to Ruthanne Brennan and her husband Norman, Kimberly Gorman Sodergren and her husband John, Andrea Gorman Hingston and her husband James, Michele Lynch Savoia and the late Mark Gorman, Doreen Gorman and Michelle Gorman-McCabe and her surviving husband John "Jocko".
