Obituary

Grafton – Joseph A. Laperle, 74, of Grafton, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, Worcester.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Suzanne T. (Forget) Laperle and his two daughters, Amy Gordona and her husband, John of Austin, TX and Jessica Roman and her husband, Raul of Spencer. He has two granddaughters, Madelyn and Mackenzie Gordona whom he loved fiercely. Nothing brought him more joy than sneaking off with them for ice cream or any number of treats they could convince him to get with a simple smile.

Joe is also survived by his two brothers, Phillipe Laperle and his wife, Jenmei of Keesevile NY and Richard Laperle and his wife, Terri of New Ipswich, NH; three sisters, Constance A. Carpenter and her husband, Bob of Worcester, Terry Laperle and her wife, Mari Willey of Mechanicsburg, PA and Jacqueline Quinlan of Worcester. Joe also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Armand E. and Marie Rose (Goyette) Laperle and graduated from Holy Name High School, later attending Becker College.

Joe proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and then worked for the Hallamore Corporation for 34 years retiring in 2010 as a Foreman for their rigging division.

Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 92 in Grafton, Teamsters Local 170 and Saint Mary’s Church.

To say he was passionate about basketball was an understatement! The love affair began as a kid and he was dedicated from the start. He would even shovel the snow off the city courts in the winter to ensure he could practice. It’s no wonder he became an exceptional basketball player while at Holy Name High School. He coached too many teams to count including, recreational, AAU and at the St. James Basketball League in Grafton where he volunteered for many years. He spent his most memorable years at Sutton High School with his best friend Steve Romasco.

After Joe retired, he loved spending his summers in Wells Beach, Maine with his wife. He started going to Maine 40 years ago and he was proud to own a home where he created so many memories with his daughters and granddaughters.

The funeral for Joe will be held on Wednesday, November 2, from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St. Worcester with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Saint Mary’s Church 17 Waterville St. North Grafton. Entombment with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum, Worcester. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, November 1, from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
