Worcester – Robert E. Spencer, 92, a lifelong resident of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 28, 2022 in Saint Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Spencer was married for 61 years to the late Barbara(Burlingame) Spencer who died in 2014. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Morrow of Holden; a son, Michael Spencer and his wife, Deborah of Worcester; a sister, Barbara Upgard of Millbury; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
Mr. Spencer was born in Worcester, son of the late Vernon Spencer Sr. and Rose (Brazeau) Spencer. He is also predeceased by a son, WFD Lt. Thomas E. Spencer, who died in 1999, son in-law Robert Morrow Jr., and a brother, Vernon Spencer Jr. Bob graduated from Saint Peter’s High School in 1950 and then proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Mr. Spencer worked for 20 years at the former Crompton and Knowles Company and then went to work for the City of Worcester Water Department as a meter inspector for over 20 years.
He was a talented football athlete and was inducted into the Saint Peter’s High School Hall of Fame in 2004. He loved to be with his family and cherished the time that he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Monday, October 31 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in Saint Peter’s Church 929 Main St. with committal prayer to follow in Saint John’s Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, October 30 from 5 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
