BUXTON- On Thursday, October 27, 2022, David G Savage, Sr, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine, surrounded by his loving children. David was born March 25, 1944, in Augusta, Maine, son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Dorey) Savage. He graduated from North Reading High School in 1962. While there, David was a member of the National Honor Society and was the Drum Major for the North Reading High School Marching Band. David continued his education at the New England School of Anatomy, graduated in 1966 and began working for JS Waterman & Sons Funeral Home in Wesley, MA. On October 1, 1966, he married his wife, Gail. In 1969, he moved with his family to Bonny Eagle Lake in Buxton, Maine. David’s love of science brought him to work in the research department at the SD Warren Paper Company (later SAPPI) in Westbrook, Maine, where he worked until his retirement in 2001focusing on developing coatings for paper and release papers. He was most proud to be a member of the team that patented paper technologies for the USPS Bugs Bunny Stamp. David was involved with Buxton Cub Scout Pack 349, where he ran the Pinewood Derby race for many years. As his sons Bill and David advanced to Boy Scouts, he became the leader of their troop, Troop 342. David enjoyed camping and taking his scout troop on excursions such as canoeing the Allagash River and camping in Baxter State Park. He was very proud of the many scouts he helped to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, including both of his sons. David was a dedicated parishioner at St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Gorham, Maine, where he served as the church’s head usher for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also involved in local town government, serving on the Buxton Town Planning Board.
He was predeceased in May by his beloved wife, Gail Taylor Savage. He is survived by his children, William (Theresa Savoy) Savage of Augusta, Tracey (Steven) Bricker of York, David (Irene) Savage of Grafton, Massachusetts, and his grandchildren, Andrew & Ryan Bricker, Leo, Jack & Nicholas Savage. He is also survived by his siblings, Carol Odom, Jane Laberge and Paul Savage. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Savage. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Anne’s Catholic Church in Gorham, Maine on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11 AM. Interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
