Virginia E. Devoe, 83, a longtime resident of Derry, NH, returned to the arms of Jesus on Thursday October 27, 2022 in the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA. She was born in Augusta, ME on April 20, 1939, a daughter of the late Joseph and Juanita Payson.
Virginia taught Sunday school at her Protestant Church for 15 years; played piano and was very involved holding many positions such as treasurer, and missionary secretary. Virginia loved to play the guitar and sing religious hymns. She volunteered for two years at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry singing to residents. Virginia loved being a mother and from the youngest of her years she helped to raise her four brothers. Later in life she was one of the primary care givers to her late mother and her late husband.
She was married for 52 years to the late William O. Devoe. She leaves behind her seven children, Matthew Devoe and his wife Rose of Merrimack, NH, John Devoe and his wife Melissa of Derry, Judith Devoe of Londonderry, NH, Ronald Devoe, Mark Devoe, and David Devoe all of Derry, and Faith Devoe of Hooksett, NH; 15 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two step children, Timothy and Stephen Devoe of Maine; three brothers, Leighton Payson and his wife Joan, Frederick Payson, and Norman Payson and his significant other Beverly Chase all of Augusta, ME. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth L. Payson, and Ronald J. Payson.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 1st from 10:00am - 12:00pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm in the funeral home, with burial following in Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry.
