Delaney, Warren Hennessey 85, a native of Newton Massachusetts, passed away on Sunday, October 23rd, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a courageous 28 day battle to recover from complex medical issues. Warren was a lifetime member of the West Suburban YMCA, working out religiously up until his hospitalization. He was a world traveler, avid golfer, and enjoyed migrating south during New England winters to Naples Florida to hold court with friends at Campiello's. He cherished his frequent trips back to South Bend, IN to attend The Fighting Irish football games and to reunite with his Class of 1959 brothers. At 6'7", Warren was a giant to all who knew him and a loyal friend. He was a proud alumnus and basketball enthusiast at BC High('52-'54), Newton High School('55) and Notre Dame University('59).
Warren was the beloved son of John A. and Mary R.(Greeley) Delaney of Newton. He is the brother to Ruth McCarron of Woburn and the late Clement Delaney. He is preceded by his first-born son Scott Steven Delaney who passed in the first year of his life. He is survived by his family including his daughters and grandchildren for whom he was immensely proud: Pamela J. Delaney of Dover MA, Megan Delaney Redmond of Barrington RI, and Nikki M. Delaney of Quincy, MA, Megan’s husband David A Redmond V, and Pam’s better half Peter J. DiPerna. His beloved grandchildren were the joy of his life Haidyn E. Redmond, Lily R. Redmond, and David A Redmond VI. Warren's nieces and nephews include: Bruce, Gail, Brian, Jennifer, and Melissa.
Warren was humbly faith-filled and could be found each Sunday evening at the front row break at St. Ignatius of Loyola. He was devoted to his family and his many friends across the globe.
Visitation will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. Wellesley on Sunday, October 30th, from 3-7pm. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Monday, October 31, at 9:30am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, Chestnut Hill at 11am.
