WORCESTER –Georgianna Sgariglia, 71, died at home on October 2, 2022. She passed in her home from complications related to heart and blood conditions diagnosed earlier this year.
Georgianna leaves a son, Lionell D. Thompson Jr., his wife Amy and their two children Maximillian and Anna of Douglas, and a daughter, Moriah Mensah of Washington, D.C. In addition, she leaves a brother, Brian G. Sgariglia, his wife Nancy and a sister Deborah A Thibaudeau and her husband Thomas of Webster. Georgianna had 2 nephews, Adam Sgariglia, his wife Miranda, and Eric Sgariglia. Adam and Miranda also gave Georgianna a grand-nephew, Jackson Sgariglia. She was preceded in death by her daughter Tara L. Thompson who died in 1992 and by her mother Theresa R. (Dupre) DeVries who died in 2021.
Georgianna, Gigi to her friends, was born in Webster a daughter of George and Theresa R. (Dupre) Sgariglia and was a 1969 graduate of Bartlett High School. She raised her oldest children in Webster before moving to Worcester in mid 90s to raise her youngest daughter. Gigi had many friends and was known for her good and kind nature. One thing that any person who knew her would say, is that she strived to be a fair and understanding person. This attitude stayed with her even when life and people were not kind or fair with her. Whether it be the emotional support she provided to her children, the time she spent caring for her elderly mother before her passing, or her donations to local charities of her time and money, Gigi strived to make the world a better and kinder place. Each of us strive to leave this world a bit better than it was when we arrived, and she succeeded.
Ms. Sgariglia worked as an executive assistant at the Family Healthcare Center of Worcester retiring in 2018. Her time there, spent assisting the less fortunate to get the assistance they need to survive and grow, was reminiscent of her time navigating these programs in her youth.
She enjoyed yoga, Reiki, Chinese brush-painting. Gigi was also a lover of cats, which she loved to adopt from the local shelters. She also enjoyed taking art classes at the Worcester Senior Center.
In conclusion Georgianna’s greatest love was her family. She was a light and calm harbor in the storm of life. She will be greatly missed and the world is a lesser place without her.
