AGAWAM - Donald J. Wheeler, 87, of Agawam, was called safely home on Sunday, October 23, 2022. He passed into eternal life surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on January 7, 1935, a beloved son of Franklin and Marion (Mosher) Wheeler. He was employed as a superintendent for Fontaine Brothers in Springfield and later owned and operated D.J. Wheeler, Inc, General Contractors. Don was a loving, kind and wise man of deep faith. He served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He appreciated the simple things in life, spending time with family and friends, the pitch club, hunting with his family and simply enjoyed the beauty of nature. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Denise (Brunet) Wheeler. They were blessed with over 23 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, Donald Wheeler (Carol), Susan Shea (Patrick), David Wheeler and Carol Burns (Joseph); his three loving step-children, Lisa Laudato, James Laudato (Kristen) and David Laudato (Felicity); his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his dear sister, Barbara Lane (Donald); and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving daughter, Debra Hartmann; and his eight dear brothers and sisters. His family will receive family and friends on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104, (please meet directly at the church). His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107.
