Doreen E. Mulcahy, 90

Doreen E. (Eastman) Mulcahy, age 90, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, October 24, 2022 at the Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. She was the beloved wife of retired attorney Charles D. Mulcahy, to whom she was wed for fifty-three years.
Born in Mansfield, MA on June 17, 1932, she was a loving daughter of the late William A., Sr. and Marion C. (Delliacono) Eastman.
Doreen grew up in town and was a 1950 graduate of Mansfield High School. She continued her education, receiving an Associate Degree from Fisher Junior College. While in high school and college, Doreen worked at the former W.L. Stearns News and Stationary Store in downtown Mansfield. Following college, she was a member of the Chatterbox Club in Boston and sang “Let Me Entertain You” in front of the late Cardinal Richard Cushing, who highly praised her performance.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Mulcahy’s first job was at Ortho Pharmaceutical in Boston and later worked as an Office Manager for the Charles O. Finley Insurance Company in Boston. Mr. Finley was also the owner of the Oakland Athletics Baseball Team. Following her retirement, Doreen worked parttime at Bookends in Mansfield.
Doreen was a lifelong communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield where she served as a former CCD Teacher and as a longtime secretary for the Church’s Catholic Women’s Club. Actively involved in the Mansfield Community, Doreen was a member and longtime secretary for Mansfield’s Westside Benevolent Circle, where she chaired and worked on several committees including the Mansfield Food Pantry and the Thanksgiving Baskets and Christmas Present Drive.
Doreen was a former board member of the Mansfield Council on Aging, a member of the Friends of the Drop-In Center and an original member of TRIAD. At the Council on Aging, she was a member of the Silver Songbirds and more recently the Joyful Chorus. An avid reader, she was also a member of the Council on Aging Book Club. Doreen was a member of the Mansfield Lodge of Elks and for all her faithful service received the Elk of the Year Award in 2010. Along with her husband, she co-chaired the Elks Senior Breakfast for many years.
Doreen’s hobbies included playing tennis and played competitively at Tennis 95 and then at Fore Court Tennis Club in Rhode Island, representing the club in many tennis tournaments. She was a former member of the Mansfield Red Hat Society, enjoyed trips to area casinos, cruises taken with her husband, was an avid New England Patriots fan and loved shopping for the best bargains at Building 19 in Walpole. For many years she assisted her husband at the Mansfield Lions Club annual Penny Sale and when younger served as a Girl Scout Leader.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted daughter Pamela C. Glindeman and her husband John of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was the cherished grandmother of Andrew M. Glindeman. She was the dear sister of the late William A. Eastman, Jr. and James G. Eastman. She was the much-loved sister-in-law of Bob and Barbara Mulcahy of Jericho, Vermont and is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, October 30th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 31st at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Doreen’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Friends of the Mansfield Drop-In Center, 255 Hope Street, Mansfield, MA 02048.
