Obituary

Sabino "Sammy" Coscia 83, of Franklin, passed suddenly at his home on Sunday October 23, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Angela (Musto) Coscia for 66 years.

Born January 18, 1939, in Manocalzati, Italy, a provence of Avellino, to the late Giuseppe and Mariantonia (Guarino) Coscia. Sabino was the brother of the late Antonetta, Carmela, Luigi and Teresa.

Sabino is survived by his children, Maryann Valente and husband Peter, Rose Buckley and husband David, Lisa Palladino and husband Richard and Michael Coscia and wife Michelle all of Franklin.

Sabino was also the father of the late Anthony and Rosetta Coscia.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Sarah, Samantha, Anthony, Daniella, Paul, and Adam. Along with his great grandson, Daelen, his nieces, nephew and sister in law Nunzia Coscia of Walpole.

Sabino and Angela migrated to the USA in 1958 and settled in the North End. They both worked hard and were very proud to become USA citizens. He found work in the building trades and as a machine operator. They later moved to Hyde Park to start a family. Sabino however, missed having land for farming and raising animals that he experienced growing up in Italy. They purchased a farm in Franklin in 1973. It was here that they built their home and established roots for 50 years.

Perhaps his greatest pride was his garden which, spanning over a quarter acre, grew corn, tomatoes, peppers, kale, onions, and potatoes. Each year he and his wife Angela would perform the arduous task of jarring hundreds of jars of homemade tomato sauce. Sabino’s vision was to help each of children grow their families and establish their own homes nearby which he would have a significant role in helping build.

Sabino worked construction and was an expert heavy equipment machine operator. He worked in both commercial and residential construction throughout New England for many decades. In his later years this transitioned to local construction within the Franklin area.

In his retirement, he enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee every day, spending endless hours working in his garden, caring for his pool and doing yardwork. Alongside him at all times was his beloved dog, Louie.

One of his most notable hobbies was making homemade wine every year, which was enjoyed heartily at every family event. Whether it was wine or tomato sauce, he always made extra so everyone in the family could enjoy it. He also raised chickens and was eager to hand out fresh eggs to anyone who stopped by.

His greatest joy in life was his wife, Angela. They met and married in Italy. Together they migrated to the United States, seeking a better life after having experienced the realities of WW2 in their home country. He enjoyed giving her a break every Sunday where he would prepare a big meal, which the grandchildren eagerly anticipated and came running for. He always made sure her birthdays and significant marriage milestones over their 66 years together were met with love and memorable family dinners for everyone to celebrate.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday Oct. 28th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square Franklin at 10AM.

Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
