FALL RIVER… Robert J. Burns, 88, of Somerset, MA, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Charlton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Fall River, Robert was son of the late John and Anna (McMahon) Burns. He was also the beloved husband of the late Janice (Carrier) Burns, devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a decorated Navy veteran in the Korean War.
Robert worked as a maintenance man for Globe Manufacturing for 36 years prior to his retirement in 1995. Upon his retirement he kept busy as a bus driver for the Fisher Bus Company in Somerset until 2016. Bob was a Jack of all trades, he never met a project or challenge that he couldn’t successfully tackle. Among our fondest memories of our father is him teaching three generations how to swim and do backflips in his pool. He was an avid reader, his kindle was always with him. He loved the outdoors, cycling, walking and visiting the Somerset waterfront.
Survivors include: daughters, Donna Harrington of Somerset, MA and Jean Murphy of Venice, FL; 9 grandchildren, Jocelyn Medeiros, Glenn Burns, Meaghan Nicolay, Jennifer Isett, Amanda Harrington, Cassandra Matte, Kirby Harrington, Timothy Burns and Jeremy Burns, 8 great-grandchildren; and one niece. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sons, the late Glenn and James Burns, and his sister, the late Eileen Arthur.
