John T. Gill, 87

Dateline: Hyannis, MA

John T. “Jack” Gill, age 87, of Hyannis, formerly of Norton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 21, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Hough) Gill, to whom he was wed for nearly thirty-three years and the late Margaret S. (Gibson) Gill, who died in 1987.

Born in Lowell, MA on January 27, 1935, he was a loving son of the late Patrick and Gertrude (Kelly) Gill.

Jack grew up in Lowell and was a graduate of Keith Academy in Lowell. During the time of the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and later received his electrician’s license.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Gill had been employed for forty-one years as a lineman for Massachusetts Electric, retiring in 1998. He had made his home in Hyannis for the past twenty-nine years and was a former longtime resident of Norton.

Jack was a communicant of Saint Francis Xavier Church in Hyannis and was a former parishioner of Saint Mary’s Church in Norton. He was a lifetime member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks, a member of the “Can’t Get Old Club and a member of the Margie’s Marcher’s Team of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Jack’s family, especially his grandchildren were the focal point and essence of his life. He was a talented woodworker and was well-known for building beautiful birdhouses. He loved spending time fishing with his grandchildren on Simmons Pond, socializing with neighborhood friends, singing, dancing and will always be remembered as the life of the party.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Barbara A. Benoit and her husband Robert of Rehoboth, Patti A. Morrissey and her husband Kevin of Norton, John F. Gill and his wife Jacquelin of Foxboro, Robert G. Gill and his wife Michelle of Norton, Thomas M. Gill and his wife Bethany of Seekonk and Debra L. Zejnullahu of Swansea. He was the dear brother of Gertrude Brophy of Wakefield, Rhode Island, Margaret Latulippe of Methuen and the late William Gill, Sister Patricia Gertrude, Virginia Maziarz, Barbara Monette, David Gill and Frances Kirkpatrick. He is also survived by his cherished 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 27th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 28th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 1 Power Street, Norton. Burial will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.

In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Margie’s Marcher’s Relay Team, checks made payable to the American Cancer Society and mailed to Barbara Benoit, 42 Tremont Street, Rehoboth, MA 02769.
