Dr, Edward “Lee” Saye, Jr., 82, of Tifton passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Tift Regional Medical Center. A graveside funeral service will be held for Dr. Saye at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2022, at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. The Rev. John Hughes and the Rev. Mark Myers will officiate.
Born August 14, 1940, in Atlanta, Dr. Saye was the son of the late Edward Lee Saye, Sr. and Lydia Martin Saye. Dr. Saye served in the United States Air Force in England with the Medical Services Division. While in the service, he received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland in History and English. He received his doctorate of Philosophy from GSU on June 18, 1988; his Master of Education from GSU on May 31, 1970; and his Specialist in Education from GSU on March 3, 1974. He retired in 1991 as Assistant Principal at Druid Hills High School in Atlanta. In Tifton, he taught English at ABAC and at Tiftarea Academy.
Dr. Saye enjoyed performing in local plays at the Tift Theater. He was a member of Tifton’s First Baptist Church, where he taught the Raley Sunday School Class.
Dr. Saye is survived by his wife, Susan Hutchinson Saye of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy Saye Howard and her husband Chip of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Amanda Saye of Tifton; two brothers, Monroe Saye and his wife Libby of Atlanta and Bob Saye and Sue Trowbridge of Atlanta; one sister, Joyce Saye of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Katherine Howard LeRoy, Phoebe Saye and Griffin Saye.
