SPENCER: Walter R. Thurlow,78, of Spencer, died Tuesday, Oct. 18 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester after being stricken ill at home.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Jeanne S. (Gardner) Thurlow, his son; David Thurlow and his wife Lisa of Spencer, his daughters; Laurie Lapierre and her husband David Lapierre of W.Brookfield and Lynn Dreibholz and her husband David of Stafford Springs, CT., a sister; Dr. Charlene "Liz" Nims and her husband Douglas of Toledo, OH, 6 grandchildren; Jen Concapetit and her husband Jon, Melissa Thurlow, David Lapierre, Jr. (Victoria), Allan and Justin Lapierre and Jonah Dreibholz, and a great granddaughter; Maggie Concapetit, and two nieces. He is predeceased by granddaughters; Hannah & Emily Dreibholz.
Walter was an assembler at Flexcon Co. in Spencer for 13 years before retiring in 2004. He previously worked at Norton Co. in Worcester for 20 years.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Charles and Lorrain (Price) Thurlow and later graduated from Wachusett High and Worcester Junior College.
He was a longtime H.A.M. radio operator. A genuine family man, he loved working in his yard, and loved his dog.
Walter's funeral will be held on Monday, Oct. 24 from the J.HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary,Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m.. in the funeral home.
