Lawrence J. Lerch, age 76, formerly of Wareham and Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro.
Born in Chelsea, MA on December 10, 1945, he was a loving son of the late Walter and Anna (Grant) Lerch.
Larry grew up and was educated in Pennsylvania. He continued his studies, receiving an associate degree from Newbury Junior College. Prior to retiring, he was employed for over five years as a Diesel Mechanic at Marmello Bros. Construction Company in New Bedford and was the former proud owner of L & S Equipment Repair in Mansfield.
In addition to being a resident of Wareham and Mansfield, Larry had also lived a short time in South Boston. He was a former active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Wareham and a former member of the Order of Redmen in Wareham.
Larry loved spending time with his family and socializing with friends in South Boston known as the “Barracuda’s”. He also enjoyed dancing, rock n roll music, had a special place in his heart for animals and will always be fondly remembered as “LL”.
He is survived by his devoted daughters: Janet Lerch and her fiancé James Morris of North Attleboro and Elizabeth L. “Beth” Royle and her husband Kevin of Mansfield. He was the cherished Papa of Frankie L. Royle and Lucy E. Royle. He was the dear brother of Walter Lerch of Pennsylvania, the late William “Billy” Lerch and the late Margie Gillen, who is survived by her husband Dennis Gillen of Maryland. He is also survived by his much-loved nephew Michael Gillen of Maryland.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, October 24th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 25th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home followed by burial at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 P.M.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Larry’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 25, Mansfield, MA 02048.
