RUTLAND___ Marie Dooley Granlund, 70, of Rutland, MA passed away Friday, October 14, 2022 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marie is survived by her children Brian Anderson and his wife Toni of Eastham, Lynn Anderson of Worcester, Michael Anderson and his wife Deborah of Leominster, Shannon McKeon and her husband Brian of Rutland, John Granlund and his partner Patricia Jacques of Auburn, and Meghan Granlund of Rutland. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her beloved sister Margaret (Dooley) Zenkus, nieces, nephews and extended family. She is predeceased by her daughter Amy Rose Anderson, her sister Marlene (Dooley) Wajda and her brother-in-law Algird A. Zenkus. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of John F. and Rose M. (Jennette) Dooley.
Ms. Granlund graduated from Doherty High School and Worcester State College where she received her undergraduate degree Summa Cum Laude and was honored in a national publication of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges” in 1997, later receiving her Masters in Education from Lesley University. Marie taught in the Worcester Public Schools for many years before retiring. She had a lifelong passion for teaching and learning. She was comforted by her Catholic faith throughout her life and cherished her family above all else. Family gatherings were essential to her, building many traditions through the years including cooking, a game of Yahtzee and toasting “famiglia.” Another of her favorite places was at the beach with a good book. Marie always found time for everyone and welcomed them into her home and life with warmth and kindness.
The funeral will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 from HENRY – DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. John Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester, Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
