Domenic A. Barbero, Jr., 76

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Domenic A. Barbero, Jr., age 76, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Karen L. (Keenan) Barbero, to whom he was wed for fifty-four years.

Born in Fitchburg, MA on December 29, 1945, he was a loving son of the late Domenic A., Sr. and Emma (Vivo Amore) Barbero.

Dom grew up in Fitchburg and was a 1963 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg. He furthered his education, graduating in 1967 from Norwich University and always remained an active member of the University’s Alumni. During the time of the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country as a member in the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Barbero was employed at Boston Gas, retiring with the position of vice-president following a career that spanned thirty-four years. While working for Boston Gas, Domenic returned to school and received his master’s degree from Northeastern University.

A resident of Mansfield for the past forty-seven years, he was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church in Mansfield. He had previously lived in Foxboro and was a former member of the Foxboro Jaycees. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Franklin Country Club. Domenic loved spending time with his adoring family, especially his grandchildren and coaching his grandson Deven’s youth baseball and basketball events in Mansfield.

Dom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him and will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity and how he was affectionately known as the “Dominator”.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Kristen Barbero Scotti of Mansfield, Jennifer Swaine of Leominster and Nicole Barbero of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Deven Barbero and Nora and Domenic Swaine. He was the brother of Kevin Barbero and his wife Jeannette of Cranston, RI and Elissa Smith of Ohio. He is survived by his steadfast Norwich classmates, many whom have and always will be considered family. In addition to his many nieces and nephews, he will also truly be missed by his forever faithful pup, Bella.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, October 18th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 19th at 11:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the services and burial will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Domenic’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306.
