Obituary

After a long hard battle with cancer, on October 9, 2022, Abby passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones. In her last hours, she was surrounded with love and, most certainly, entertained by 5 of her grandkids : Kalea and Ani Tamsing, Penny & Kenny Serrano and Bronson Fogle.
Abby Aguilera-Cubitt, was born Abigail Haro Aguilera on April 20, 1950 in Zacatecas, Mexico to her mother Reyes Haro Aguilera and Raul Felix Aguilera. She was the oldest of six children; three brothers: Jesus, Philemon, David, and three sisters: herself, Consuela, and Rachel.
Abby and her family emigrated from Mexico to the U.S in 1956 and she became a naturalized citizen in 2013. Abby had a rewarding career doing what she does best, helping those less fortunate, while working at the Ventura Housing Authority for over 30 years where she met her future husband, Jim.
When asked to describe Abby, you will most often hear people say things such as kind, giving, talented, wise, helpful, and intuitive. She always knew what to say and when to say it and there wasn’t a mean bone in her body. Abby was lovingly referred to as Nonnie; a name coined by her grandchildren, but she was a mom or “Nonnie” to all. Abby was a very talented seamstress and crocheter who often made blankets and hats for babies and children in the hospital or to sell at the local church rummage sale. Abby was very strong in her Catholic faith and had deep ties to our local churches. When not at church or volunteering, you would find her with her family. She loved to take scenic drives with her husband, and spend time making memories with her children and grandchildren.
Abby is survived by her husband of 41 years James Cubitt; their 3 daughters: Laura (Scott) Cox, Jessica Cubitt, and Charlotte (Jon) Serrano; 5 bonus children: “Debbie” Cubitt, “Jimmy” (Tracie) Cubitt, Lisa Cubitt, Julie Cubitt and Jennifer Cubitt; 17 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; siblings: Philemon (Amy) Aguilera, “Jesse” Aguilera, and Rachel (Scott) Halberg.
Abby is preceded in death by her mother Reyes Aguilera; her father Raul Aguilera; her brother David Aguilera; her sister “Connie” Saavedra; and her granddaughter Kalena Tamsing.
