Obituary

Richard Hyong-Do Lee, 64, of Hooksett, NH, suffered a stroke and died two days later, on October 12, 2022. He was born in Seoul, South Korea on March 25, 1958 to his parents Song-Ok Lee and Soon-Ae Lee. He attended medical school at the University of Alberta and practiced medicine in New Hampshire for the past thirty years. On April 11, 1987 he married Soojin Lee and together they raised two children: Sylvie and Isaiah.

Richard was an avid athlete; he especially loved hiking, cycling, telemark skiing, and running ultramarathons. He was happiest actively exploring nature with his friends. In his later years developed a passion for photography and was often seen crouched in the forest pursuing the perfect shot of a bird (or a frog, or a beaver...) while his two dogs - Soonie and Noel - waited patiently. He found immense joy sharing photos from his latest adventure (most recently from Peru). Nothing excited him more than going to a new country and making new friends.

Richard found his greatest happiness in life when he became a grandfather to Yenna and Junoh. He was always ready to host indulgent sleepovers, read books on request, have a tea party, and supply nonstop "special treats". He was not above getting his nails painted to make Yenna happy.

Richard made several medical missions to serve patients in Kenya. In retirement he planned to devote several months a year continuing to volunteer in Kenya, consistent with his passion to help others, his inherent kindness, and his lifelong faith in Christ. His life was a living example of the Bible verse Ephesians 4:32 - "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ".

Richard is survived by his wife Soojin, their daughter Sylvie, her husband Kyle and their two children Yenna and Junoh, and their son Isaiah. He also leaves behind his mother Soon-Ae and his siblings and their families: Chang-Sil, Shinja, Michael (Yeong), Michelle (Sung-Kuk), Alison (Young), and several nieces and nephews.

A service is planned for Monday, October 17, 2022 at Grace Capital Church in Pembroke, NH. Calling hours will be held 9-10:15 and service held at 10:30 with a Celebration of Life to follow immediately afterwards.

If you would like to give something instead of flowers, consider a donation to We Get Water - a charity run by Richard's hiking friend Aaron - which funds water wells in the developing world.
