Culberth Lewis Preston James of Dorchester, Massachusetts, died on Friday, October 7th, 2022.
He was 80 years old. "Parggy", as he was lovingly known to all his fellow Tobagonians, was born on September 12, 1942, to the late Samuel and Vashti James in Mason Hall, Tobago. He was the last of eleven children, nine brothers, and one sister. Culberth attended Mason Hall Primary School. He later graduated from Harmon High School, Scarborough, Tobago.
In 1968, Culberth migrated to the United States of America and resided in Boston Massachusetts. He enrolled in Boston State College and graduated class of 1979, with his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Culberth, an avid learner, decided to pursue his Graduate degree. He attended Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts where he graduated class of 1983, with a Master’s Degree in Public Health. Although he was passionate about education, Culberth decided to start his own business. He was the founder and CEO of CHAPS BUILDING MAINTENACE & SECURITY SERVICES, a position he held for over 27 years until his untimely death. He was dedicated to his family. He doted on his nieces and nephews and was always available to help anyone, no matter the request. Culberth demonstrated his love through his kindness and quiet humility. Culberth was deeply committed to the community he served and was always exploring opportunities to give back.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and would plan family gatherings, where he would use the opportunity to share and engage. He was passionate about traveling and traveled extensively with his wife. His other passion was buying and driving older model cars.
Culberth was predeceased by his siblings: Ulrick, Carlyle, Colgan, Lewellyn, Doyle, Horace, Keenan, and Lineaus. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of fifty years Hyacinth, his son Pele, daughter Jillian, daughter-in-law Phanenca, grandchildren Xavier and Nevé, brother Doltan, and sister Betty, his numerous sisters-in-law including, Cynthia Balfour, Joycelyn Johnson, and his multiple brothers-in-law including Eversly Baird. Along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, relatives, and friends in Trinidad and Tobago.
Culberth "Parggy’s" legacy of kindness and humility will live on forever through all of his loved ones. Culberth, a gentle, loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and trusted concerned friend will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
Visiting hours will be held at Casper Funeral Home located at 187 Dorchester Street in South Boston 12- 2PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Interment services will be private.
