Obituary

Carol May Carter aged 82 died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice on October 12, 2022. Carol was the beloved wife of Bruce A. Carter. Carol will be greatly missed by her three sons, David, Peter, Kevin, her daughter-in-law, Nicola and her brother George R. Smith. Among those expressing regrets are numerous brothers-in-laws and their wives, nieces and nephews, fraternal friends and neighbors.

Carol grew up in Saugus, MA and graduated from Saugus High School in the Class of 1957. She went on to business school and worked as a secretary for Eastern Gas.

Carol met her long time boy friend and eventual husband in Saugus High School. The romance continued through Bruce's Air Force service and they were married on October 6, 1963. A honeymoon on the Virgin Islands was the start of many exciting adventures. Carol's first residence as a married woman began in Reading, MA and then to Lynn, MA. When children started arriving, the Lynn house proved too small and so Carol found an empty lot in Boxford, MA to build a home to raise her three sons. She designed the home in 1974 and it has proved to serve her family well.

Carol's secretarial skills were valuable as secretary to the owner of Pleasure Island Amusement Park in Wakefield, MA. Many Hollywood stars performed at the park but her favorite memory was caring for Lassie the dog when she rested under her desk between shows.

Carol was very active in Rainbow for Girls and received the Grand Cross of Color for her service. She and Bruce served as Worthy Matron and Patron for Tontoquon Chapter No. 100 Order of the Eastern Star in 1972. That year brought many happy memories including being installed Worthy Matron when very pregnant with her first son, David. A few sighs of relief were heard as the ceremony closed. Carol was a born teacher. Those talents became evident when she joined Tupperware Home Parties as a Dealer and then a Manager who became recognized as one of the top Managers in the country. Her efforts were recognized by a free trip to Hawaii with her husband. Carol's Direct Sales teaching skills helped many women become successful in their chosen careers.

Carol joined Tupperware Home Parties when it first started as a home party plan. The very first Distributorship was in Everett, Ma. She remained with the company for 50 years. Carol's sale skills were not limited to wonderful Tupperware products. She also became a Manager for DK Family Learning, a direct sales arm of DK Publishing. These were inspirational books which were a delight to share with customers. Carol and her husband were heartbroken when the company closed.

It was time to do some other things like being the friendly face at the Boxford Town Hall on Monday afternoons which she did for many years. Carol's talents included making greeting cards. Not just any cards but beautiful works of art. Her teaching skills showed again when she began teaching card making to small classes in her home.

Carol enjoyed travel. She and her friends and family toured Africa and Russia, sailed the Amazon and the rivers of Europe. Her 50th anniversary was spent touring Norway. Amsterdam with its flowers was wonderful but the most memorable trip for her was Africa with it's elephants and lions.

Final arrangements have not been set but will probably include a private ceremony. Donations in Carol's memory can be sent to the Hospital Equipment Loan Program, 500 West Cummings Park Suite 1150 Washington Street, Woburn, MA 01801
