George E. Keough, 94, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts died suddenly on October 6, 2022 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital after a fall at home.
Born and raised in Rockland, he was the son of Martin and Rose (Hines) Keough and a longtime resident of Hanson and Manomet before moving to East Bridgewater. He was employed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for thirty years as a research engineer in the seismology laboratory, a position that led him all over the world.
George was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and served overseas with the 6th Infantry Division in Korea.
In 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine, with whom he shared sixty-one beautiful years. There are many words we could use to describe George, but if we had to pick just a few, he was creative, innovative, and had an incredible sense of humor. He was a collector of many things, from beer memorabilia to genealogy, but he especially loved collecting knowledge. He was an avid fisherman, inventor, researcher and a captivating storyteller, and his adventurous spirit was felt in all aspects of his life.
George is predeceased by his loving wife, Lorraine (Mosher) Keough, his daughter, Kathleen Landry, his sisters, Mary Keough and “Tina” Megathlin, and his brother Joseph Keough. He leaves behind his children, Michael Keough and his wife Bonnie of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Maureen Chapman and her husband Kevin of North Fort Myers, Florida, and Patricia Larkin and her husband Timothy of Boynton Beach, Florida as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
