Obituary



Robert E. Penney, of Stoneham, formerly of Melrose passed away peacefully at the Bear Hill Nursing Home on Saturday morning. He was 89. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John E. and Anna (Carter) Penney. After High School, Robert enlisted in the US Navy. Upon completing his service and receiving his honorable discharge, Robert graduated from Northeastern University and later earned his Master’s Degree from The University of Massachusetts. Robert enjoyed a long career as a mechanical engineer and spent thirty of those years with the Polaroid Corporation, working there until his retirement.

Robert was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always found time to get out on the golf course and looked forward to spending time on his boat at his Maine lake house.

The beloved husband of Marie C. (Porcaro) Penney, Robert was a devoted father to Patricia Hand and her husband Christopher of Gloucester, Robert Penney, Jr. and his wife Angela of W. Barnstable, and Gary Penney of Stoneham. He was a loving grandfather to Adam, Katherine, Alexandra, Brian and his wife Jessica, Jessica and her husband Joshua, Elisabeth and her husband Alex, Meredith and Sarah. He was a proud great-grandfather to Axel. The dear brother of Jeanne Barbati, Robert was preceded in death by his siblings John Penney, William Penney, Barbara Gear and Patricia Ryan.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home on Tuesday October 11 from 4 – 8 PM. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford at 10 AM. Services will conclude at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
