Geraldine “Geri” Maria (Bannon) Creedon, 77, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2022, surrounded by her family.
Geri is the former Massachusetts State Representative of Brockton and Easton. In the 242 years of the Massachusetts Legislature’s existence, Geri and her husband, Robert Stanton Creedon, Jr., were the only married couple to serve together in the Legislature - Geri as a State Representative and Rob as a State Senator.
Geri and Rob met on Cape Cod at a summer party. For Rob, it was love at first sight. They married and made Brockton their home. In addition to their love of politics, Geri and Rob shared a love for travel, visiting over 40 countries together with “The Neighbors,” friends, and family.
Geri was never happier than when she was surrounded by her grandchildren, telling imaginative stories of chipmunks that inhabited their garden, making apple crisps, and going to Dowses Beach.
Prior to joining the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Geri served as Brockton City Councilor-at-Large. She was a member of the Democratic City Committee, Brockton Library Foundation, The Charity Guild Board, Fuller Museum of Art, Hospice of Greater Boston/Brockton, and The Fortnightly Club. Geri served on the Massachusetts House Committee on Ways and Means. She championed education, serving for many years as Vice-Chair of the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Education and on the Massasoit Community College Board of Trustees, ultimately as its president.
Geri was a graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston. She attended Ursuline Academy in Springfield. Her parents were Gertrude Twitchell Bannon and J. Leonard Bannon, who imparted to their daughter a love of public service to her community and her country.
Geri was the mother of Jennifer Ann Creedon of Milton, who is married to Brian Bunn, and Robert Stanton Creedon III of Norwell, who is married to Moira Creedon. She was predeceased by her daughter, Keira Elizabeth Creedon.
Geri was the grandmother of Emily Paterson Bunn, William Bannon Bunn, Keira Anne Creedon, and Robert Stanton Creedon IV. She was the sister of Christine Bannon Ferrarone and her husband Rick of Westchester County, NY, Mark Leonard Bannon and his wife Pam of Hopkinton, and the late L. Michael Bannon and his wife Anita of Springfield.
Geri had many nieces and nephews with whom she loved caroling on Christmas Eve and decorating for the Cotuit Fourth of July parade.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123), Brockton, Wednesday, October 12, from 3-7 p.m. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
