Ruth E. Fortier
February 26, 1931 – October 4, 2022
TEWKSBURY: Ruth Emily (Mulholland) Fortier, age 91, a resident of Tewksbury for 60 years, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
She was the beloved wife of Kenneth J. Fortier, who passed away on May 25, 1998.
Born in Boston on February 26, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. Mulholland and the late Gertrude E. (Davis) Mulholland.
Ruth was raised in Braintree. She attended local schools and graduated from Braintree High School.
In 1963, she and her late husband moved to Tewksbury.
Ruth worked in the lunch program at the Heath Brook School in Tewksbury for 12 years as well as for Wang Labs until her retirement.
She was an active member of the Tewksbury Senior Center, Golden Age Club and Senior Walk-In-Center, where she enjoyed numerous activities and oversaw the Senior Center’s Library.
Ruth enjoyed reading, bowling, playing games of cribbage and mahjong, the companionship of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her extended family and many friends.
She will lovingly be remembered for her warm, friendly, and optimistic personality, her love of dancing as well as her delicious lasagna and outstanding deviled eggs!
Ruth is the mother of James K. Fortier and his late wife, Julie, of Tewksbury: four grandchildren, Jackie Fortier, of Nashua, NH, Jennifer Tarantino and her husband Anthony, of Malden, MA, Jessica Fortier and her fiancé Jason Smith, of Nashua, NH, Justin Fortier and his wife Shannon, of North Carolina: three great-grandchildren, Zoey and Aubrey Tarantino, and Julie Smith. She was the sister of the late George, Tom, June, Florence and Rose.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, October 15, from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury, immediately followed at 11am by a memorial service to be held in the funeral home. Interment of her ashes will follow at 12 noon at the Tewksbury Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather following the interment at Ruth’s home at 1289 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Friends of the Elderly and mailed to the attention of Diane Dunlevy at the Tewksbury Senior Center, 175 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA 01876.
