Larry “Bobby” Rowan, 90, of Nashville passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Fellowship Home in Nashville. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Mickey Lindsey officiating. Mr. Rowan will be laid to rest at Union Grove Church of God Cemetery in Eldorado. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Heys Rowan, Bennett Rowan, Chris Player, Derek Rowan, Taylor Strickland, Mason Sikes, Greysen Strickland and Tyler Collins will serve as pallbearers.
Born September 29, 1932 in Cook County, Mr. Rowan was the son of the late Thomas Lawton Rowan, Sr. and Grace Pearl Whitley Rowan. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Corene Purvis Rowan; one son, Larry Alvin Rowan; one grandson, Joseph Duane Rowan; one foster son, Michael H. Woodward; five brothers, Thomas L. Rowan, Jr., Richard Rowan, Vernon Rowan, Rudy Rowan and Wayne Rowan; and five sisters, Myrtle R. Parker, Evelyn R. Eason, Odessa Rowan, Linda R. Phillips and Patsy R. Purvis. Before retiring, he was a building contractor and the owner of Bobby Rowan Construction, Inc. He was self-taught and valued education. He was former president of the Tiftarea Homeowner’s Association and the Berrien County Gospel Singing Convention. He was an ordained Church of God minister and enjoyed Gospel Singing Cruises with his wife. He was fortunate to have visited the Holy Land with his father, Thomas Lawton Rowan, and brother, Vernon Rowan.
Mr. Rowan is survived by his children and their spouses, Judy Rowan Woodrum (John) of Black Creek, Garry Lawton Rowan (Peggy) of Nashville, Bobby Don Rowan (Dede) of Newnan and Belinda Rowan of Tifton; his grandchildren and their spouses, Derek Lawton Rowan (Sherry), Christopher Robert Player (Rebecca), Elisa Rowan Strickland (Taylor), Tonia Morrow, Joseph Heys Rowan and Bennett William Rowan; his great-grandchildren and their spouses, Tyler Collins (Jennifer), Mason Sikes, Lexi Knight, Greysen Strickland, Annalee Strickland, Paisley Rowan, Elizabeth “Betsy” Player, Maddison Morrow, Jones Lane and Reid Lane; two great-great grandchildren, Elena Collins and Grant Collins; one brother, Nathan Rowan of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Marie R. Hagadorn of Albany and Ovaline R. Williams of Newnan; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
