Obituary

Marcelle Y. Lavallee, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away on October 5, 2022 surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. She was the wife of the late Donald J. Lavallee who she was married to for 49 years before his passing in 2002. She was born on July 11, 1930 in Bic, Canada to George and Maria (Santerre) Pineau. After the death of her mother she moved to the United States and was raised by her loving Aunt and Uncle, Roland and Yvonne (Pineau) Bernard. Graduating in 1949 from Mount Merici Acadamy in Waterville, Maine she then moved to Lowell where she worked as a bookkeeper for the Lowell 5 Cent Savings Bank. At that time she completed her citizenship application and was proud to become US citizen at the age of 21. Although she loved her career, after marrying in 1953, she chose to stay home to raise her family. A loving mom and very creative, she was a skilled seamstress and craftsperson. She sewed all of her children’s clothing and created beautiful works of art with yarn and embroidery. Wanting to share her talents, she later in life volunteered as a teacher in adult education, and more recently she passed down those skills to her loving granddaughter. She was an incredible person and fierce advocate for her family in their times of need. Quiet and thoughtful, she was a beacon of strength for anyone who needed her. Always thinking of others and forever grateful, her final words would be “thank you.” She is survived by her three children: Elaine (Lavallee) Fiorilla and her husband Michael of Newburyport, Michael Lavallee and his wife Shelly of Ridgeway, SC, and Carol (Lavallee) Horman of Merrimack, NH. Marcelle leaves behind four grandchildren: Lee Lavallee and his partner Victoria of FL, Jesse Lavallee and his wife Leigh-Ann of SC, Joshua Horman of Merrimack, NH and Jade Fiorilla of Newburyport. She leaves behind three great-grandsons, Anthony, Aiden and Michael Lavallee. She is also survived by her brother Lucien Pineau of PQ, Canada, her sister Marthe (Pineau) Allard of Concord, NH, her “little sister” Helen Nadeau of Tewksbury, her brother- in-law, Victor Allard of Concord, NH, sisters-in-law, Fleurette (Lavallee) Moustafa of Lowell, Jeannette Lavallee of Haverhill, as well as many nieces and nephews in the US and Canada. Along with her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by her beloved Aunt Yvonne (Pineau) Bernard and Uncle Roland Bernard, her brothers, Lorenzo Pineault, Roland Pineault, Bertrand Pineault, Rheo Pineau, and Roger Pineault as well as her sister, Mariette (Pineault) Trahan. She was pre-deceased by her brothers-in-law, Edward Lavallee, Francis Lavallee, Rudolphe Lavallee, Gerard Lavallee, Paul Lavallee and sisters-in-law, Therese Lavallee, Diane Lavallee, and Jeannine Lavallee. She was also pre-deceased by her beloved son in law, George Horman. We are especially grateful for all the loving care our mom received from the staff at Grace Morgan House. You kept her safe and happy through her peaceful last few years. From Marcelle and her family, “We give our sincere thanks.” In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack Street, Suite 425, Lawrence, MA 01843, Att: Development Office or, AgeSpan, 280 Merrimack Street, Suite 400, Lawrence, MA 01843, Att: Development Office.
