Gene Floyd Lewis, 73, of Alexandria died October 5, 2022 at I.U. Health Ball Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born January 13, 1949 in Anderson, the son of Floyd E. and Eve (McLean) Lewis.
He served in the United States Air Force.
He was a painter at Inland Fisher Guide for 35 years before retiring in 1999. He was a reserve police officer for Chesterfield Police Department. He was past commander of Chesterfield American Legion Post # 408 and a member of United Auto Workers Local 663. Gene earned his Eagle Scout and was a scout master. He was an avid collector of Star Trek memorabilia. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen (Charles) Lewis of Alexandria; his six children, Carla (Scott) Freeman of North Carolina, Michelle Cox (fiancé, Kyle Gibson) of North Webster, Philip "PJ" (Carol) DiEgidio of Pennsylvania, Michael DiEgidio of Anderson, and twins, Christina (Chet) Saunders of Lapel and Chris Lewis of Anderson; eight grandchildren, Cody Freeman, Cole Freeman, Landon Cox, P. Reid Cox, Jeffrey (Abigail) DiEgidio, Brittney DiEgidio, Levi Lewis and Noah Lewis; his brother, Richard (Jeanice) Lewis of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Cindy Lewis and a grandson, C.J. Saunders.
Funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Ned Clark officiating. Burial will be in Bronnenberg Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday October 22, 2022 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to American Diabetes Association or Chesterfield American Legion Post 408.
