Gertrude A. “Trudy” (Hodgdon) Duhamel, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully at the age of 97 on October 3, 2022. Trudy was the wife of the late Robert A. Duhamel Sr. Born in Middleboro, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Caroline E. (Sears) Hodgdon.
Trudy was a graduate of Middleboro High School and before her retirement was employed at Foot Joy Shoe Company for 18 years. Previously she had been employed at Stall and Dean in Brockton where she enjoyed making uniforms for the Boston Red Sox.
While a resident of Brockton, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of its choir and St. Ann’s Sodality. Previously, she had been a communicant of St. Colman Church and belonged to the Ladies Sodality, Legion of Mary and St. Paul’s Guild.
She moved to Lakeland, Florida where she was called the “cross lady” because she diligently cross-stitched “crosses in the pocket” and shared them with everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, reading, playing Bingo, bowling, doing “search the word” puzzle books, and watching the Red Sox Games.
Trudy was the mother of Robert A. Duhamel Jr. of Basking Ridge, NJ; Donna M. Aponte and her husband Merle Rogers of Lakeland, FL and the late William E. Duhamel. She loved and enjoyed her five grandchildren: Marc Duhamel, Colleen (Duhamel) LaGram, Scott Buczek, Heath Buczek and Jenna Aponte. She is also survived by six great grandchildren Cole Hitchcock, Kyla Buczek, Khloe Buczek, Helena Duhamel, Stephen LaGram and Jacoby LaGram as well as many nieces and nephews.
Trudy was the sister of the late Lorraine Cybulski of New Bedford, Pearl Swietlowicz of New Hampshire and Charles Hodgdon of Brookesville, FL
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Friday, October 14, 2022 from 9:00-10:00am, followed by a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 10:30am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
