Worcester: Sonia (Kachigian) Dodakian, 91, passed away on Friday October 7, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She leaves 4 children, Gary and his wife Katherine of Shrewsbury, Marianne Dodakian-Cavalieri and her husband Richard B. of Worcester, Richard and his wife Maureen of Shrewsbury and Harry M. and his wife Suzanne of Walpole. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, Gary Peter and his wife Danielle, Rebecca, Jessica, Allison, Michael, Amy and Andrew Dodakian, one great grandchild Gary Charles, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Harry Dodakian, and by 2 brothers- Kachadoor Kachagian and Sarkis Kachigian.
Sonia was born in Whitinsville, daughter of the late Garabed and Mariam (Hekimian) Kachigian. She graduated from Northbridge High School and dedicated her life to raising her family. She was a devoted member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour and its Woman's Guild, AVAKS, and Friendship Club. She enjoyed summers on Cape Cod, antiquing, a good game of cards and most of all spending time with her many dear friends and family, passing on her beloved Armenian culture and traditions to the next generations. An avid Patriots fan, Sonia never missed a game. The family would like to thank Dr. Sara Hughes and the Oncology Team at UMass Memorial for their expert care and compassion over the last 10 years.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour 87 Salisbury St. Worcester, MA 01609. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
