In Taunton, John (Jack) E. Morrissey, age 81, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, October 1, 2022. Jack was born in and a lifetime resident of Taunton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Coyle High School in 1959 and Bridgewater State College in 1964, where he was class Treasurer. Jack was an accomplished athlete, playing both basketball and baseball, and was inducted into the Coyle Cassidy Warrior Hall of Fame in 1997.
Jack worked his entire career at the Taunton School District. He began as a physical education teacher before quickly becoming the physical education coordinator for the school district and finally the Athletic Director. As Athletic Director, Jack proudly watched many of the high school teams go on to win state championships. He was also instrumental in reviving the annual Thanksgiving Day football game between Taunton High and Coyle Cassidy. Jack touched the lives of thousands of students and athletes throughout his long career at Taunton High School. He was an exceptional educator, administrator and colleague, and he was always up for a free throw challenge with his students. Jack retired from Taunton in 2002. Jack loved spending time with friends and family, traveling, watching sports, playing poker with his buddies and visiting the casinos.
Jack leaves behind his 2 sons, Keith A Morrissey of Taunton and his girlfriend, Hillary Andrews of North Attelboro, and Craig S. and his wife Karen P. Morrissey of Baldwinsville, NY. He is also survived by his two grandchildren, Erin M. and John T. Morrissey of Baldwinsville, NY and his close companion of 12 years, Patricia Grant of Mansfield, MA.
Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia A. (Correa) Morrissey, his mother, Margaret (Roberts) Meunier, and his sisters, Margaret (Peggy) O’Donnell, Jacqueline Morrissey, and Sandra (Morrissey) Nadeau.
Calling hours will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton, Friday, October 7th from 4-7 p.m. A funeral home service will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.
