Alziro T. Silva, 82, of Lowell, passed away after a courageous year-long battle with cancer on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Willow Manor Nursing Home. For 59 years he was the beloved husband of Ondina (Mendonca) Silva.
He was born on November 24, 1939 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal. He grew up and was educated in Graciosa. He resided there and worked as a fish salesman, until he came to the United States in 1976. He and his family settled in Lowell’s Back Central Neighborhood. He was a proud member of the Portuguese community and a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. He was also a member of The Portuguese American Center / "Blue’s Club". He loved gardening, making wine, and traveling, especially back home to Graciosa. In his younger years, he enjoyed singing and was well known for his performances at parties and gatherings. But above all else, he loved to spend time with his family.
In addition to his wife Ondina Silva of Lowell, he is survived by his son Emanuel SIlva and his wife, Andreia, of Lowell, John Silva and Nellie Santiago, of Lowell, Maria Jurewicz and her husband, Paul, of Pepperell and Melinda Sicard and her husband, Paul, of Dracut. His 8 grandchildren, Tiffany Silva, Brittany Silva, Briana Silva, Brandon, Logan and Colby Jurewicz, Paul Sicard Jr and Benjamin Sicard, great grandchildren, Nathan, Anthony, Nariah and Faith. His niece, Maria Fatima Neto.
He is predeceased by his son, Alziro Silva, Jr., he was also the brother of the late Maria Silva, the late Jose Silva, the late Manuel Silva and was also the brother in law of the late Jose Raimundo.
The family would also like to thank everyone at the Willow Manor Health Care for their care and compassion especially during Alziro's final days.
You are invited to his calling hours from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday. October 7 at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA. His funeral mass will take place after the calling hours at 12 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
