Susie Ida King Culpepper “Granny” “Pepper”, 100, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be 2PM, Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Paulk Funeral Home chapel in Ocilla, with Dr. William Hancock officiating. The interment will follow in the Mystic Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home in Ocilla.
She was born September 22, 1922, to the late Joe and Martha Jane Roland King in Rebecca, Georgia. She was a member of Mystic Baptist Church. Susie was full of personality and everyone that knew her, knew what she was thinking. She was a wonderful example of a mother and grandmother. She was a fierce defender of her family and friends. Susie loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved telling stories about growing up, working on the farm, and harvesting sugar cane, tobacco, and cotton. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, and embroidery mainly the French Knot. She was the perfect example of hard work ethic and worked until she was over 90 years old. Other than working on the family farm, she worked at the Manhattan Shirt Factory in Ashburn Georgia, for many years, and also worked at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home. For most of her life she was a private caretaker to the elderly and she loved all of her patients. They all became a huge part of her life. They were considered her family.
Ms. Culpepper is survived by three daughters: Bobbie Tompkins of Augusta, Jill York of Ocilla, and Marie & Dr. Milton Jones of Cordele; Grandchildren: Kin Tompkins, Kyle Tompkins, Wendy Whitaker Lee & Bill, Missi Maher & Miles, Angel Williford Young & Clay, Will Williford & Keri, Kari Stringer & Josh, Brooke Mckinney, Heather Skaggs & Pete, Bridgette Harper & Clay, and Chad Culpepper & Heather; 26 great-grandchildren and one great- great grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Oris Turner Culpepper; two infant children; three sons: Jerry, Jack and Dwight Culpepper; siblings: Bessie Carlton, Odis Johnson, Oscar Johnson, O.B King and Ottis King; son in-laws: Harry Tompkins and Billy York; great-grandsons: Winston Tompkins and Mason Tompkins.
