Limington – Kenneth (Dickie) E. Whitten, 85, passed away on September 29, 2022, surrounded by family, after years of declining health.
Dickie was born on March 30, 1937, son of the late Cora and Fordest Whitten and was raised for many years by his Grandmother, Ella Berry. He attended Saco Schools and from there served his country in the U. S. Navy.
Dickie married Wilma Gammon on November 25, 1960. Together, they built a home on Moody Road in Limington where they resided their entire lives until declining health necessitated their move to Springbrook Nursing Care Facility. Together they raised two children, Leonard Whitten and Amy Whitten Foster.
Dickie’s career included jobs with Cook Concrete, Lucian Burke and Clarence Cadarette where he began to learn the trade of Masonry. He was self-employed as a mason with his own “concrete forms” business for many years. Later in life, Dickie drove truck for C. E. Bouchey and Sons and valued the Bouchey family as dear friends.
Dickie enjoyed the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his favorite Uncle, Arthur Tapley. He liked to ride snowmobile and motorcycle. One of his favorite activities was dancing and you would often find him and Wilma on the dance floor at local Saturday night dances. Together, he and Wilma once spent a very long day climbing Mt. Washington. Dickie was a “people person” and loved visiting with his countless circle of friends, especially at Limington Variety Store.
Dickie was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Elaine Whitten and Phyllis Wormwood and brothers, Robert, James and Russell Whitten. He was also predeceased by his beloved grandson, Eddie Whitten. He is survived by his wife Wilma Whitten, son Leonard Whitten of Limerick and daughter, Amy Whitten Foster of Steep Falls. Three grandchildren, Ashley Whitten, Tayla Smith and Tim Whitten as well as 10 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Carol Goodwin and Lucille Grundell and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date
