Paul R. "Butch' O'Neil, entered into rest on September 25, 2022. Born in Boston, he has resided for many years in Punta Gorda, Florida and Onset, Massachusetts. Butch O'Neil was a Boston Police Detective and a U.S. Marine to his core. Jim Mattis said "Marines don't know how to spell the word defeat". This is how Butch lived his life, a multi-faceted journey, one lived with honor, courage and steely determination. He spent his last years driving his boat, riding his motorcycle and traveling the world. He leaves his beloved long time partner Ellen Burnett, treasured sons Kevin and his wife Maria and Shawn and his wife Amy, cherished grandchildren Carolina, Ana, Aidan and Patrick. Son of the late James and Jane (Tripp) O'Neil. Brother of Jane Graves of Longmeadow, the late James O'Neil and Kathleen Sarkisian. Also survived by his former spouse Rose O'Neil as well as several nieces and nephews. Butch attended St. Kevin's Grammar School and Don Bosco High School and was a 50 year member of AA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Clare Church 1244 Liberty St. Braintree on Thursday September 29 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with his family at the church from 10:30 am until 11:00 am prior to the Mass. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
