Richard A. Johnson, 67, of Auburn died Sunday, September 25th at Mass General Hospital after a brief illness. He leaves his wife and rock of 37 years, Lisa D. (Dumais) Johnson; a son, Andrew D. Johnson of Worcester; a sister, Beverly Sieniawski and her husband, Mark of Worcester; two sisters in law, Michelle Gilfoy and her husband, Ed of Spencer and Sandra Dumais of Douglas; and many nieces and nephews.
The son of Everett and Dorothy (Pratt) Johnson, he was born in Worcester, graduated from South High School, and earned an associate’s degree from Wentworth College. Richard was a Lieutenant with the Worcester Fire Department; the majority of his 32-year career he was stationed at Webster Square Station. He took great pride in his job and embraced the brotherhood. In 2012, Richard retired as a fire investigator.
Richard enjoyed the beach, especially Misquamicut, playing video poker, riding his tractor, and his daily visits to Culpeppers Bakery. He loved reminiscing about his days racing his #67 car at Westboro Speedway and his yearly trips to Florida to watch the Daytona 500. He was also an antique toy collector. Above all, his greatest joy and accomplishment was fatherhood.
Calling hours are Thursday, September 29th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. Funeral services and burial in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn will be private. Please omit flowers.
