Jennie Fiore died on September 24, 2022. She was born Giovannina Fiore on July 31, 1925 to Ralph and Annie Fiore of South Boston. She was predeceased by her parents and her 8 siblings, Mary, Charlie, Edie, Joe, Gloria, Johnnie, Lizzie, and Ann. She graduated from South Boston High School in 1943 and had already worked in the garment district from the time she was proudly eligible for “work” papers at age 14. After graduation, she continued working in the garment district for a few more years, until she and her best friend went to work at John Hancock Life Insurance. She worked there until she retired at age 62.
Bored in retirement, she and her other retired sisters, Gloria and Edie, joined Lizzie and Ann working in Filene’s Basement Dept Store, where the five sisters all enjoyed working together. When they were feeling ambitious, she and Lizzie would walk from their house in South Boston “in town”, sometimes to the North End for mass, then a slice of pizza at Pizzeria Regina, where she and Lizzie might split a beer.
After living in the same house in Southie for more than 90 years, and being a frequent visitor to South Boston Neighborhood House she moved in with Gayle and Bob (one of her godsons) in Portland, Maine. She had a great recovery from a bad fall and lived with them from 2015 until she moved to Heron House, where she enjoyed winning at Bingo, sitting in the sun, and the company of family and doting caregivers.
Most recently, she enjoyed a summer cookout with Bob, Gayle, Bernie, Donna, Brianna, Audrey and Craig. All shared fun memories with her and she enjoyed sharing her old family pictures. She was much loved and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. A special thanks to Nicole and her extraordinary team of caregivers at Heron House, all of whom provided Jennie with love, companionship, and compassionate care.
Visiting hours will be held at Gate of Heaven Church in South Boston on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 10A-10:30A followed immediately by a Catholic Mass and interment at Saint Michael Cemetery, Boston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heron House Activity Fund, 92 U.S. Route 1, Cumberland Foreside, Maine 04110.
