SEBAGO-Philip Gordon Harnden, age 85, passed away on September 20, 2022 surrounded by family.
Phil was born in Gardner, Massachusetts on September 21, 1936, a son of the late Everel and Eunice (Kermack) Harnden. Phil graduated from Punchard High School in Andover, Massachusetts in 1954. Phil met and married his wife of 64 years soon after high school. He worked his way to successful self-employment with an automotive repair shop, P and M Repair, established in Andover , Massachusetts in 1964. He was adventurous and intelligent, known to always be involved in a projects such as building his home or restoring antique cars. He had a great love of being in nature and taking note of trees and rocks. He was dedicated to his family and provided constant opportunities for his children and grandchildren to play and enjoy life. Phil and his wife fostered 18 children between the years of 1964 and 1974. In 1976, Phil belonged to the Granite State Steam and Gas Engine Club. In 1980, Phil and his wife purchased a farmette in Sebago, ME. In 1982, they relocated with their two youngest children from Andover, Massachusetts to Sebago, Maine, continuing P and M Auto Repair on their property. They farmed the property raising animals and caring for the land. In later life, Phil and his wife were committed to supporting those in need in their community through fuel assistance funding.
He is predeceased by his son-Scott Harnden who passed away in 2010
Phil is survived by his true love and wife, Edythe (Carnes)Harnden; His children-Deborah Magliozzi and her husband Douglas of Hampstead, NH. Philip Harnden Jr. and his wife June (Marsden) of Bridgton, ME. Susannah Harnden and her partner Chris Spann of Cape Elizabeth, ME; Seven grandchildren-Michelle and her husband John, Lauren and her husband Richard, Rachel, Philip III and his wife Bryanna, Tyler and his wife Kate, Carter and Bela; and five great grandchildren- Nicolas, Jonathan, Gavin, Harper and Oliver
The family has chosen not to have a service but instead celebrate Phil’s life privately.
