John Raymond Mathews III passed away at the age of 64 as a resident of Beacon Hill in Boston MA, on Saturday September 17th, 2022. He passed away at Mass General Hospital from sudden illness and post-op complications.
Born on Oct 8, 1957 in Syracuse NY, the child of John Raymond Mathews II and Gertrude (Brox) Mathews. While growing up in the Syracuse area, he attended Christian Brothers Academy where he made lifelong friends that he leaves behind. He then attended SUNY Albany where he received his Bachelors degree in Sociology. After graduation, he worked in Syracuse as a salesman and computer programmer before moving to Boston in 1986. In 1987 he became a member of the Boston Church of Christ where he was a devoted servant leader until his passing. As members of this congregation, he and his wife Nancy met and were married October 8, 1994. He was an employee of MIT Lincoln Laboratories for 22 years where he retired in December of 2021.
He is survived by his wife Nancy (Mitcheson) Mathews of Beacon Hill, Boston MA. By his daughter Jenna Winters and her husband Collier Winters of Boise ID. His son Jesse Ghoman and his wife Alexandra Ghoman of Charleston SC. By his sister MaryEllen (Mathews) Pugh, her husband Darryl Pugh of Valencia Spain, and their sons Colin Pugh and Daniel Pugh of New York. And by his four grandchildren Rosie Ghoman, Westbrook Winters, Georgia Ghoman, and Peyton Winters.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday September 24th, 2022 at 11am at the Boston Church of Christ located at 75 Pleasant st Arlington MA, 02476. In lieu of flowers you can send donations to Ray’s favorite charity HOPE Worldwide.
