Virginia Nixon, 86, of Gales Ferry died Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, James Nixon. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was kind and always put the needs of others before her own.
She was a devoted Catholic and volunteered in teaching CCD, was a Brownie leader and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was part of the Adoration Team at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and had devotion to the Blessed Mother.
She is survived by her three children, Peg Platania, Jim Nixon, and Catherine Antezzo. She has six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition to her husband she is predeceased by two sisters and one brother.
Her family will greet relatives and friends, Thursday, September 22, from 5 to 7 pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by her grandson, Father James Platania, Friday, September 23, at 11:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1650 Route 12, Gales Ferry. Burial will immediately follow in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
