Obituary

Robert Charles Maccini, age 87, of New Bedford, MA, and Port Charlotte, FL passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 11, 2022. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Driscoll) Maccini, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. He was also the companion of Joan Bobrowiecki.

Bob was born and raised in Cambridge, MA. He was the son of the late Joseph and Louise (Bergonzi) Maccini. Bob graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School, where he was an outstanding hockey goalie and captain of his hockey team. He was one of six high school seniors in the State who received the All-State Hockey Award and was presented with an official Bruins jersey and a signed goalie stick before one of their hockey games. Bob served his country by enlisting in the Army during the Korean War and after earning his paratrooper wings, he became a jump school cadre instructor with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.

Family was the center of Bob’s life. He adored spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was active in their lives and was always in attendance at their school and sporting events. Bob was an expert craftsman and repairman. He was a self-taught, hands-on guy who could fix most anything. He loved a good project and was happiest helping his children and family work on their homes. One of his joys was hosting pool parties and cook-outs for his family and friends at the “Maccini Compound.” Bob will be remembered as a kind, gentle, generous man, and mentor.

In addition to his companion, he is survived by his three children, Brian Maccini and his wife Robin of Westport, Cathy Maccini and her husband Robert Gaumont of South Dartmouth, and Sue Alves and her significant other Glenn Davis of New Bedford; seven grandchildren, Patrick (wife Nicole), Justin (wife Courtney), and Alex (wife Kyla) Maccini, Andrew (significant other Kirsten Debrosse), Matthew (fiancée Victoria Henriques), and Nicholas Alves, and Grace Gaumont; nine great-grandchildren, Greyson, Lilly and Lucas Alves; Alayna, Jaxson, Laurel, Melia and Vincent Maccini; and Cody Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Joseph Maccini, Jr. and the late Lillian Bono, Alice Franceschi, Alfred Maccini, and Mary Peitavino. He was the brother-in-law of Marilyn Maccini, Mary Mosher, and Nancy Smith, and the late Louis Bono, Joseph Franceschi, Claire Maccini, William Mosher, Harry Peitavino, and Richard Smith.

In accordance with his wishes, a private family service and interment were held.
