Donald Wesley Mueting, born March 20, 1926 in Wessington Springs, SD, moved West to Goleta, CA with his parents, George & Elizabeth (Weddell) Mueting at age 6. His first view of the awe inspiring Pacific Ocean lead to a deep love for the ocean and all bodies of water which lasted throughout his 96 years on this earth. Sharing that love was possibly his greatest gift to his daughters, as was his love of music and dancing.
Having moved to Ventura during his teen years he graduated from Ventura High School and soon after he joined the WWII war effort and served in the US Army Air Corp where he trained in camera repair and aerial photography. Returning to Ventura after discharge he met and married, Marlene (Case), mother of his daughters and attended the Brooks School of Photography where he furthered his trade and worked at Point Mugu Naval Base in the photography department.
After retirement, Donald moved to Bass Lake, CA and enjoyed it for many years.
In the late 1990’s he returned to Ventura, living on a boat at Channel Islands Harbor. During this time he attended a Ventura High class reunion and became reacquainted with former high school friend, Marilyn (Hofius) Morter, and they spent happy times dancing at parties held at Lemonwood Mobile Home Park where they lived. He belonged to the Ventura Yacht Club and the Masons and at 96 he was still able to play a melody on his clarinet!
Although declining he maintained a lust for life and his love of pancakes, pie and coffee.
Sadly he passed on Friday, August 26, 2022. He was a good man and a unique person and will be remembered and missed by those who knew him.
Donald was predeceased in death by his second wife Jean (Harris) and his long time partner Marilyn Morter. He is survived by his daughters, Jan Leslie and Lynn Ellen (Mueting) and his 3 sisters; (Phyllis) Maxine, Colleen, and Dorothy and 10 niece’s and nephew’s. He will be interred at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park with his mother and father. A private service will be held at a later date.
