Edith Louise (Bennino) Fontana, age 93, of Tewksbury passed away on Tuesday, September 6th, at Bear Mountain at Andover. Born in Wethersfield, CT, she was raised and educated in Rocky Hill, CT, the daughter of the late Nunzio and Mary (Mucci) Bennino. Edith moved to Malden in 1972, and later to Medford, before settling in Tewksbury three years ago. She worked for many years as a librarian in the field of law. Edith was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching baseball. Her favorite, however, was any game her grandchildren played in, and she kept every newspaper clipping of their successes.
Edith was the beloved wife of the late Rosario J. Fontana, and the devoted mother of Deborah Rocco and her husband Anthony of Tewksbury, and Horace DiSano and his wife Lynn of New Jersey. She was the loving grandmother of Michael Rocco and his wife Lindsay, Alicia Rocco, and Gina Gibson and her husband Dan. Edith was the loving great grandmother of Sammy and Kasey Rocco, and Nicholas and Michael Gibson. She was predeceased by her sister Alice Yacobucci, and two brothers, Frank and Horace “Corky” Bennino, who were both killed in World War II. Edith is survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Monday, September 12th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 11th, from 4 through 7 PM in the Dello Russo Funeral Home. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
