Obituary




Rev. James F. Darcy, of Boston, passed away on Tuesday, August 30th. He was 81. Born and raised in Framingham, he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Hastings) Darcy. James attended the parish grammar school at St. Stephen’s and went on to St. Mary High School in Milford. He then enrolled in the archdiocesan seminary beginning at Cardinal O’Connell Seminary in Jamaica Plain and then at St. John’s Seminary, Brighton. He later attended Boston State College where he obtained his masters’ degrees in pastoral counseling.

A member of the class of 1965, his class was ordained to the diaconate by Cardinal Cushing on St. Patrick’s Day 1965. He was then ordained into the priesthood by Cardinal Cushing in June of 1966. He served at St. Mary of the Nativity of Scituate, St. Dorothy of Wilmington, St. Ann of West Bridgewater, Sacred Hearts Parish of Haverhill, St. Agatha of Milton. He was a part of the lend-lease program in Palm Beach, Florida. When he returned to Boston he served at St. James and St. Francis of Assisi parishes both of Medford, where he assumed Sr. Priest status, before residing at the Regina Cleri in Boston.

A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, on Thursday, September 8th, at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at St. Zepherin Cemetery, Wayland. Visiting hours have been respectfully omitted.
