Obituary

John V. Mello, 93, of Westport, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 2, 2022. He was the husband of Doris (Cunha) Mello, they were married for 67 years.

Born in Fall River, son of the late Bento and Marianne (Tavares) Mello, he had lived in Westport for most of his life. Prior to retirement, he was a foreman at Hoyt Manufacturing in Westport for 38 years. Mr. Mello served in the National Guard for 10 years. He was a Communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church and a member of the Our Lady of Grace Seniors. An avid golfer, he was a past member of the Hillcrest Golf Club, Touisset Country Club in Swansea, Whaling City Golf Course in New Bedford and the Terraverde Country Club in Fort Myers, FL. He was a New York Yankees fan and he also enjoyed NASCAR.

Including his wife, he is survived by 2 sons: David Mello and his wife Heidi of Westport and Kevin Mello and Lori Whitcomb of Westport; a daughter: Jane Duarte of Westport; 3 grandchildren: Jason Duarte, Nicholas Mello and Sara Seaman; 3 great grandchildren: Madison Duarte, Makenzi Duarte and Nicholas Mello; and several nieces and nephews.

He was brother of the late Mary Morel, Deolinda Nadeau, Manuel Mello, Bento Mello, Gertrude Lima and Joseph V. Mello.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from the Potter Funeral Home at 10 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport at 11 A.M.

Calling hours Tuesday from 5-8 P.M.

Interment in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
