Retired Mansfield Police Sergeant Richard C. Brown, age 68, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, surrounded his friends and beloved dog “Jenna” on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Born in Attleboro, MA on January 26, 1954, he was a loving son of the late Harold C. and Gertrude M. (Cleary) Brown.
Brownie grew up in Mansfield and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. In 1978, he become a Mansfield Police Officer, retiring as a Sergeant following a career that spanned forty-four years.
A resident of Attleboro for the past forty years, he was a member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks, the Taunton Pistol and Rifle Club and the Tri-County Beagle Club in Mansfield. His hobbies and interests included hunting, camping, canoeing and shooting. Brownie’s most memorable moments were times spent at Addieville East Farm in Smithfield, Rhode Island with friends.
Richard’s family wishes to thank John Bai, George Rock, Jeannie Fine, Aaron Fine and Mike Ahern for the exceptional care and compassion bestowed on him during his illness.
Brownie was the dear brother of the late Ellen L. Wagner and the loving uncle of Paul L. Gordon, Courtney E. Bois and the late Shaun M. Gordon. He was the great uncle of Joshua and Austin Gordon.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours, with Police Honors, on Friday, September 9th from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
At 10:30 A.M., the funeral procession will depart the funeral home for a graveside funeral service at North Purchase Cemetery, 825 North Main Street in Attleboro.
