Jackie Edward Riggins peacefully passed away at his home Monday 8/29/2022 at the age of 94. Jack was born in Ventura on July 3rd, 1928 to parents Clyde and Delia Riggins. Jack attended Sheridan Way and Washington Schools, Cabrillo Jr HS and graduated in 1946 from Ventura HS. Jack began working for the Star Free Press as a paperboy in 1945, was then moved to the circulation department in 1946. From 1946 to 1948 Jack was in the Army. In 1948 Jack joined the Air Force Reserves where he was called up and was stationed in Arabia until his discharge in 1950. When Jack returned home he went back to work for the Star Free Press as an apprentice Printer where he became a Journeyman Printer. Jack retired from the Star in May of 1990.
Jack married Rita Good in Dec. of 1953 and they had 2 sons: Todd R. Riggings and Ryan M. Riggins. Jack and Rita divorced in 1961. Jack married Peggy J Downey Roy in May of 1966 and he became Daddy to Ginger, Terry, and Jonni. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and their camping trips to Carpinteria State Beach. Grandpa Jack was a larger than life figure to his 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Jack also enjoyed playing tennis and going to dinner with friends. For many years, Jack was avid wood worker making many items for his family and grandchildren. One thing all of his family knew about Grandpa Jack was his “Pocket Money”. Come payday we all knew he had some cash burning a hole in his pocket. See ya wallago Grandpa Jack.
